Lotus Pool – Wave Hill

By Merle Molofsky

Water, alone, brings the smells of other things,
is gently touched with earthy roots
and the brightening skins of all the many
masquerades of flowers.

Now is the sound of the captured atomization
of sunlight, the plundering web of wind.
Here is the moment of water
petrified; a sudden jade, a deepening
lapis, nacreous surfacings.

Water, alone, brings the smells of other things,
the mauve and woman-tinted lily-shell,
the mating in warm and humid air
of dragonflies.
