Welcome to the online journal of the International Forum for Psychoanalytic Education. Other/Wise is a journal that offers a selected sampling of papers based on presentations made at IFPE’s most recent conference. Reflecting IFPE’s commitment to originality, creativity and diversity of thought and format, contributions can and have included scholarly papers, clinical papers, personal and autobiographical narratives, poetry, artwork, films and music.

Encountering ideas in ways other than expected allows us to see things we might otherwise overlook. The word otherwise suggests that experiencing that which is different can make us wise.
With this in mind we created Other/Wise, an unconventional online journal that makes room for the familiar and the unfamiliar in understanding psychoanalysis.
Through observation, clinical attentiveness, art, scholarship, self-reflection, reading, thinking, day dreaming and ideas not yet thought, our journal pursues psychoanalysis with a language of passion and desire.
Other/Wise will contain a selected sampling of papers connected to presentations from IFPE’s most recent conference. Our conferences take place in the late Fall and the issues of Other/Wise that contain this sampling will usually be posted here beginning in the Spring of the following year. Other/Wise invites all IFPE conference presenters to contribute work that is reflective of their presentations, and by the nature of an IFPE conference, that creates openings in psychoanalysis and fosters a continuation of the dialogue that began at our conference through this online journal.
